Paul Emsley (en Anglais)

Paul is a member of the Laboratory of Molecular Biophysics at the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Oxford. His field is « methods development », that is, providing software tools for macromolecular model-building using X-ray data.

The techniques used typically involve using prior knowledge of chemistry and biochemistry combined with an electron density map to generate optimised coordinates of the atoms.

Collaborating with co-workers in York (UK), Paul has written one of the most highly cited papers of recent years, making the program, « Coot », the most highly cited Free Software software.
